FMX is an event by Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg, organized by the Filmakademie’s Animationsinstitut.

Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg is one of the most renowned international film schools. The project-orientated curriculum emphasizes learning by doing at all stages of film and television production.

As one of Germany’s most prestigious film schools, the Filmakademie scores high in academic rankings worldwide. Its student projects receive wide critical acclaim; the list of awards and nominations is running long. Until now, four Filmakademie projects have won the Student Oscar: Rochade in 1998, Nimmermehr in 2007, Von Hunden und Pferden in 2012 and, most recently, Erledigung einer Sache, who took the prize this year. Other memorable distinctions include awards at the Berlinale, Max-Ophüls-Festival, AFI Los Angeles International Film Festival, La Biennale di Venezia, Festival del Film Locarno and the Young Directors Awards in Cannes.

Animationsinstitut was founded in 2002 as part of Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg. Since then it has evolved into one of the most renowned academic institutions for Animation, VFX and games.
The students’ diploma projects have receive internationally renowned awards, for instance at the Annie Awards, SIGGRAPH and VES Awards. Graduates work for studios in Germany or abroad, or start their own business – such as Studio Soi with their Oscar-nominated productions “The Gruffalo” (2011) and “Room on the Broom” (2014).
