TECH TALKS 2016 Day 1 - Doors Open
Tom Smith | Creative Director | FX Digital
WebGL: Real time 3D in the browser
Tom Box | Co-Founder | Blue Zoo Animation Studio
Blue Zoo use GPU rendering at the core of all of their TV production and commercial animation work. This talk covers the studio's experience of what has worked, and what hasn't, when moving away from CPU rendering.
Lee Danskin | CTO | Escape Technology
Cloud based infrastructure
Lee has been CTO of Escape Technology for the past three and half years, having been in the post production industry for the past 25 years as a client, artist, manufacturer and now re-seller. He taught at Escape Studios and is known for being on the development team for Maya 1.0.
In this talk Lee Danskin will discuss the technologies of today and the future, how they will impact the way we work with hybrid infrastructures, and the potential of the "Born in the Cloud" generation of companies.
Daniel Tutino | Product Manager | Autodesk
Challenges and Considerations for Adopting the Cloud
A big decision with many questions along the way. Join us for an open discussion on how industry standard tools and practices are evolving to help studios meet today’s and tomorrow’s cloud adoption challenges. Explore how open-source frameworks are powering this change and are driving our future towards distributed cloud computing.
Iliyan Georgiev PHD| Solid Angle | Autodesk
Blue-noise Dithered Sampling
A method that improves the visual fidelity of Monte Carlo renderings without increasing the sampling effort. By correlating the samples between pixels using specially constructed blue-noise matrices, the method minimizes the low-frequency content in the distribution of the approximation error in the output image, thereby reducing its perceptual error.
Kai Wolter | FX Software Lead | MPC Film
The Effects of The Jungle Book
"The Jungle Book" was a unique project for MPC, and its rich environments and detailed characters presented various challenges for the FX department, which was required to create physically believable simulations that would blend seamlessly with their surroundings while interfacing with large data sets and meeting the production schedule.
Tech Talks Day 1 - Closing time
Sol Rogers founded REWIND, an immersive content agency, in 2011 after growing demands for his professional work pulled him away from 15 years as a University Senior Lecturer in Digital Animation, Visual Effects & Emerging Technology.
Sol has grown REWIND into an award winning tribe of vibrant creative technologists and digital artists. The team is focused on harnessing immersive technologies to deliver groundbreaking VR, AR, Animation, DOOH, VFX and 360 degree video projects for some of the world's largest companies and brands including the BBC, NBC, Nike, Sony, Red Bull, Rolls-Royce and Björk.
Awarded by the UK government the inaugural 'Immersive Reality and Innovation' award in 2015 by Lord Marlon, and named as 'BIMA 100' most influential in 2016; Sol’s knowledge of VR production combined with his evangelical enthusiasm for this new industry has seen him invited to speak at conferences the world over, interviewed for TV and write for magazines and newspapers.
