Speakers

Noel O'Malley

On-set and CG Supervisor

Noel began his career as a runner at Cinesite in 2003 and has since built a broad portfolio across some of the UK’s leading VFX studios, including Framestore and Milk VFX—where he was part of the team that won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects on Ex Machina. Noel has worked at Union twice, returning most recently to take on senior roles within the CG department.

At Union, Noel has been the CG lead on Operation Mincemeat, The Banshees of Inisherin, and The Power, and most recently served as CG Supervisor on 28 Years Later, overseeing the delivery of complex visual effects for the much-anticipated sequel.

He has also worked on set across a number of productions, including Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, The Power, Operation Mincemeat, Misbehaviour, Yesterday, Emma, and The Beautiful Game, bringing his technical insight and collaborative approach to both on-set and post environments.

Dillan Nicholls

Head of 2D/ DFX Supervisor

Dillan is a DFX Supervisor at Union and the Head of 2D, where he plays a central role in leading the studio’s compositing department and overseeing the creative and technical delivery of visual effects across a wide slate of projects.

Before moving into VFX, Dillan had a successful career in television branding and promotions, serving as Head of Creative at three international TV channels and winning five Promax awards for his work.

Dillan has since built an impressive body of work at leading studios including MPC, Framestore, and now Union. Since joining Union in 2014, he has earned a reputation as a sharp, inventive lead with a strong eye for detail and a collaborative leadership style.

As both Head of Department and senior supervisor, Dillan continues to guide teams on complex, high-end work—from pitch to final delivery. Most recently, he served as DFX Supervisor on Danny Boyle’s 28 Years Later, helping to shape the film’s visual language and oversee the seamless execution of its large-scale visual effects.
